Does intermittent fasting actually work?
As many of you know, I’ve been practicing various forms of fasting for nearly a decade now, but does it really work for everyone? Does it work for no one? Does it work for women, men, and anyone in between?
There’s so much information, disinformation, misinformation and content overload when it comes to fasting, when it comes to eating, diet, nutrition. It can be tough to make sense of it all.
But we do have the perfect guest for you here today—the wonderful Cynthia Thurlow, a nurse practitioner for 20+ years, entrepreneur, functional nutritionist, Tedx speaker, host of the Everyday Wellness podcast, and the CEO and founder of the Everyday Wellness Project.
On today’s show, we’re talking about…
- Intermittent fasting from a woman’s perspective, as a practitioner and as someone who does it in her own daily practice
- Non-negotiable daily habits and intentionally setting up your environment to make success automatic
- 2 things Cynthia prioritizes every day to support energy levels and cognitive function
- The importance of protein
- Positive benefits of getting in 3 – 5 minutes of daily meditation
- Foods to prioritize when breaking your fast
- And tons more…
Let’s go hang out with Cynthia.

Before You Go
Here’s a note that came in from Michele from the Fat-Burning Tribe. She says…
“When I first hit 40, I was in great shape due to my active lifestyle. However, not long after I was prescribed a series of antibiotics that obliterated my microbiome. It was so bad that it sent me to the ER. That, and being in my 40s, caused my weight to skyrocket from a lean and muscly 135lbs to a fatty 150lbs over the course of 4-years.
I tried every fad diet and exercise routine: from expensive pre-made meal plans, counting macros, and calorie restriction; to extreme exercises like CrossFit and running 6-miles per day. The harder I tried, the more fat and weight I would gain. I eventually broke down and begged my Dr to prescribe a dangerous weight loss pill and conduct useless hormone testing. I was working so hard only to watch my weight creep up. Clearly, nothing was working! I could only watch my health deteriorate before my eyes and chalk it up to “being in my 40’s”.
Then, COVID hit. And that forced me to take a closer look at what I was putting into my body. So, I began listening to your podcasts and reading your cookbook, “The Wild Diet”, with more intent. First, I started eating A LOT more fresh, organic vegetables. Then, I stopped eating foods labeled with artificial ingredients, gluten and added sugar. I then decided to increase my intake of superfoods. That led me to your online “Wild Superfoods” store, and I began adding your supplements to my daily routine.
All of this was done solely to boost my immune system and give my body a fighting chance against COVID. But to my surprise, I began to consistently shed weight too! Months later, I am excited to say that I am FINALLY back down to 135lbs!
I can’t express how grateful I am for the years of content you’ve created centered around health! This is a pivotal time to implement these practices into our everyday lives. I am forever thankful for you!
Thank you, Abel and Alyson!”
Michele, thank you so much. I know we’ve commented and messaged back and forth many times at this point, but what an incredible story.
Yes, now is the time—if there ever was one—to focus on our health.
And so often you actually get the results from focusing on your health, not on the weight loss.
So by prioritizing your own well-being, sometimes there can be wonderful benefits that come unexpectedly.
Michele, I’m so happy that you found your way to us. And I’m really happy as well that you’re a customer of Wild Superfoods.
One of the reasons we started the Wild Superfoods store was to have a way to stay independent as content creators—keep our show coming to you—and also to literally help get you the nutrients that you need.
These are the nutrients and supplements we take ourselves, day in and day out, and we truly believe they can help optimize your health.
So we’re really excited to be at this point in our lives to have built Wild Superfoods. We’re still just getting it off the ground, but if it weren’t for people like you, Michele, believing in what we do, we wouldn’t be here.
So thank you so much.
If you’d like to help support this show, we’re really excited to say that we have a brand new app available on Apple and Android—it’s called the Wild Challenge
We have a lot of exciting announcements coming soon. We’re going to be running, of course, challenges, we have meal plans and different sorts of programs that you can sign up for. And a lot of new handy dandy tech tools that weren’t in any of our prior apps.
So make sure to check out the Wild Challenge. You can get more details and check out the Wild Challenge app right here.
And also if you’re looking to level up your nutrient intake, be sure to visit our supplement store WildSuperfoods.com (right now only in the U.S.).
Wild Superfoods is our family company, and every purchase helps keep these shows coming to you.
We have Collagen Cocoa, which is my favorite form of collagen and protein powder. It tastes delicious.
Check out Future Greens, which is a concentrated superfood cocktail of more than a dozen different organic fruits and veggies and adaptogens.
That’s a great one to have around for emergency preparedness, for backup food, to make sure you can have your nutrients no matter where you are.
We also are really excited to say that one of our bestselling supplements of all time, Vitamin D Stack, has now been upgraded to a higher potency.
We upgraded the potency from 2000 IU to 5000 IU of vitamin D3. You also get the co-factors, including vitamin A, E, K1 and K2.
So, we increased the potency of Vitamin D Stack by 2.5x, and we were able to keep the price the same, so we haven’t increased the price.
So make sure to check out Vitamin D Stack, Mega Omegas, Future Greens, Collagen Cocoa, Adrenal Stack, Fizzy C, Vitamin C Stack and Probiotic Spheres—those are all over at WildSuperfoods.com.
