How can we reduce our exposure to toxins without driving ourselves absolutely out of our minds?
Our workplaces, homes and foods are contaminated with a mind-numbing mix of chemical toxins. And by default, there’s a shocking lack of information available about what exactly is contained in the products we buy.
But instead of aiming for super sanitized perfection—which is totally impossible—it’s better to learn how to reduce our toxic load by ridding our pantries and homes of the worst offenders.
And I’m pleased to say that joining us today is our friend, Gin Stephens, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of multiple books. Gin is also a retired teacher, wife, mother, and host of multiple top-ranked podcasts. Gin’s intermittent fasting lifestyle shift back in 2014, led to her shedding over 80 pounds and then going on a success rampage with all that extra energy, so you’re going to dig this one.
On this very special show with Gin Stephens, we’re chatting about:
- How to reduce your toxic load without driving yourself bananas
- What to do about food contact chemicals and cosmetics in particular
- Why the precautionary principle actually matters in science
- How and why intermittent fasting works so well
- How to get family on board
- And much more…
Let’s go hang out with Gin.

Quick Update Before You Go
You may have also noticed that you haven’t seen a whole lot of new podcast episodes coming from us the past couple months…
That’s because of another terrible living situation story.
I sent out a newsletter, told people what happened and to expect many more shows with fan favorites like Dr. William Davis coming out soon, and more new episodes of the podcast.
But we had to put the show on pause, because the place we were renting had black mold growing in the walls.
It was slowly but surely getting worse, and it was actually happening right in the studio.
Mold is no joke, especially the toxic black mold variety. So I sent out a quick little note to the newsletter, and Christine wrote back.
And I wanted to share this because I really appreciate all you folks who do write back and keep in touch. You really do help keep us going.
I am glad you and Alyson are in a safer living situation. I look forward to the podcast because the information is valuable and you are a great interviewer.
Christine, thank you so much for that. I really do mean it, when you guys write in and let us know that you do like the show, you want them to keep coming your way, and that you appreciate certain guests or you want to hear from other ones, really love hearing from you folks.
So don’t be shy, keep in touch.
As long as we’re able and standing here, we’re going to keep the shows coming to you.
But it has been a process, not just moving, but also taking a bit of time to recover.
So anyway, yes, we went missing because of toxic black mold growing in the walls. We found it coming out of the floorboards when we moved the couch—really grim for a while there, but I’m grateful that it’s in the rear view mirror now.
My cousin texted me, and he’s just like, “Why is your house always trying to kill you?” And I’m sure being a renter doesn’t help, but the truth is that houses and just this world in general can be pretty dangerous from a lot of different directions.
Whether it’s toxic black mold, carbon-monoxide, food contact chemicals, all sorts of other pollutants are surrounding us.
So I hoped you enjoyed today’s show with Gin Stephens, because we talked a lot about how to handle excessive toxins in today’s world, and I hope you liked it.
And quickly, some of you may know that we’ve been working behind the scenes on a very secret project for a long time now. And it’s finally ready for you.
So I’m just going to ask you a quick question: How has your sleep been lately?
If you haven’t been sleeping like a champ, then here’s something that might help to limit artificial light, especially after dark…
For more than a decade, I’ve been obsessed with light as a modality for healing and recovery, but also as something that you need to be careful of because artificial light can mess with your sleep. It can mess with your nervous system and cause all sorts of problems, if you don’t manage it in some way.
And so as some of you know, my wife used to be a professional video game player, and so we’ve been into lenses, not to correct our eyesight, but to correct the color and the artificial light that’s coming through those lenses and hitting our eyeballs to make sure that we’re mitigating the damaging wavelength of light.
I am a big fan of daytime blue blocking lenses as well as nighttime lenses. And so that’s what I’m here to talk about real quickly.
So anyway, we’ve been really into wearing all sorts of goofy and cool glasses over the years, some of them really cheap, some of them eye-wateringly expensive.
And one of the things that we’ve learned after trying so many different kinds of blue blockers, is that not all are created equal.
So I’m very excited to say that we partnered up with a team of specialists to create our very own blue blocking glasses called WildRx.
A few folks have written in, saying, “What are those nifty blue blocking glasses that Abel has been wearing in recent interviews?”
Not so much on this show, because I’ve been trying to keep it a secret, but sometimes on other people’s shows. Especially when there are a lot of lights beaming at you when you’re in front of screens and that sort of thing, and this really helps calm me down and stay focused.
And so whenever I’m not on camera, and sometimes even when I am, I’m wearing these blue blocking lenses to help calm myself down.
Because standing in front of screens all day, as many of you know, can be very, very taxing on our nervous system, on our energy and everything else.
So, we’re starting off with three different styles. And very quickly here, if you want to be one of the very first people to try our new WildRx blue blocking glasses, then please visit wildrx.com.
And as a special gift for being one of the very first people there, you can save 10% off your order by typing in this special launch promo code: YOUROCK
You’ll get an extra 10% off with that code, and you’ll be one of the very first people to try this.
Right now, we’re only launching in the U.S., but we do plan to launch internationally very soon down the road.
So one more time, just go to wildrx.com and check out the different lenses we have available there.
We do have yellow daytime lenses, and then we also have red nighttime lenses, which are excellent after the sun goes down.
So check it all out at wildrx.com and don’t forget to use the promo code YOUROCK to claim your 10% off savings.
I’m really, really excited about this. I hope you folks enjoy what’s coming your way.

How are you doing on electrolytes?
Whether you’re working out or just enjoying some time outside, you’re likely sweating out a decent amount of water and sodium.
For athletes, replenishing electrolytes can make a world of difference in how you feel and perform. But instead of going for the brightly colored, fluorescent, sugar-laden electrolyte sports drinks you’ll find at most gas stations, I highly recommend stocking up on the tasty electrolyte mixes from LMNT.
Our buddy Rob Wolf started up LMNT to share a sugar-free, clean electrolyte drink to help you feel your best, and it’s quickly become a favorite in our house.
Each grab-and-go packet easily mixes in water and replaces essential electrolytes without any of the sugar, corn syrup, coloring or artificial junk ingredients.
For a limited time, LMNT is giving away free sample packs to Fat-Burning Man listeners like you with 8 individual servings, so you can try the different flavors for yourself.
It’s easy to claim your free LMNT sample pack. Just go to: drinklmnt.com/wild
You’ll get a total of 8 different flavors to try, including orange, raspberry, citrus, watermelon, lemon habanero, mango chili, chocolate salt, as well as unflavored.
So, once again, just go to drinklmnt.com/wild to collect your free electrolytes from our buddy Rob and the team at LMNT.
Now, when we’re taking a break from alcohol, we like to treat ourselves to a fun variety of non-alcoholic drinks, potions and cocktails, so if you’re ready to explore, hemp and CBD can be a fun place to start.
And the good folks at Eaton Hemp infuse their full spectrum, minimally-processed, USDA-certified organic CBD in hemp seed oil grown right on their organic farm in Upstate New York.
As a special limited time deal, Eaton Hemp is offering you a whopping 30% off storewide, so you can try their CBD and hemp foods for yourself.
Just go to eatonhemp.com and enter the code WILD30 to activate your 30% savings.
Eaton Hemp also makes some of my all-time favorite hemp hearts and toasted hemp seeds, which you’ve got to try, as well as tasty organic superfood bites, so be sure to check those out, too.
So just one more time, that’s eatonhemp.com and use coupon code WILD30 at checkout, you’ll get a massive 30% off your order.
Let us know how you like them.
Thanks so much for listening and I’ll see you in the next episode.
